Check the water before you go
Wind, swell and tide decide the day. Check the forecast and the tide table for your mark, and if the sea looks different to the forecast, it is — go another day.
WATER SAFETY
Every mark on this app comes with conditions — but no forecast replaces good judgement. The basics, in plain language.
Wind, swell and tide decide the day. Check the forecast and the tide table for your mark, and if the sea looks different to the forecast, it is — go another day.
Wave overtopping, slippery rocks and an incoming tide cut retreats fast. Tell someone where you are and when you expect back.
Irish water rarely tops 15°C. Wear a flotation suit or buoyancy aid on the rocks, and if you go in: float on your back, do not swim against it, control your breathing, call for help.
Charged phone in a waterproof pouch, light, whistle. In an emergency dial 999 or 112 and ask for the Coast Guard — Irish Coast Guard covers all coastal waters.
For inland and lake waters know your exit point before you cast. A lifejacket is not optional in a boat. Alcohol and open water never mix.
Pollution, poaching, fish in distress or an invasive species — log it here in under a minute. We write the summary; you make the call to Inland Fisheries Ireland's 24-hour line, 0818 34 74 24.
Not for navigation. Always check local conditions and regulations. In an emergency dial 999 / 112 and ask for the Coast Guard.
